Governor’s Message on Typhoon No. 10

The tenth typhoon of this season made a landfall on Kyushu and predicted to change the direction to the east, approaching the Kanto Region over the weekend.  Areas of Kanagawa Prefecture have already hit by heavy rain caused by the rain clouds brought from the south, and heavy rain warnings are issued for a wide range of areas.  The total precipitation is reaching almost 300mm in some areas of western Kanagawa, and earth-flow disaster caution is issued for extensive areas.

The torrential rain continues to fall today (30th), and the impact may continue until next week due to the slow speed of the typhoon.  We must be extremely vigilant against sediment disaster and flooding of rivers.  Kanagawa Prefectural Government established the first disaster response headquarters to prepare for occurrence of disasters and proceed with application of the Disaster Relief Act by coordinating with the national and municipal governments.

The prefectural citizens are requested to confirm the danger level of your home and workplace based on the hazard map published by municipalities and weather information given by local governments.  If you are in a dangerous place, promptly evacuate to a safe place.  In case there is an imminent danger and it is difficult to evacuate, take measures to protect yourself, such as moving to upper floor of your home.

Please do not think “I will be all right” or “It will be OK this time, too.”  Take an evacuation behavior quickly when you feel danger.  Make sure to stay away from dangerous places, such as steep cliff, swollen rivers and waterways.
