Seikantei (The Former Villa of Nagashige Kuroda)
Seikantei is the former villa of Nagashige Kuroda (Marquis) who was active during the Meiji Era. It was built in 1906 in Ashigarashimo District, Odawara Town, Kanagawa Prefecture (presently known as Odawara City, Minami-cho). It is situated near the former Odawara Castle San no Maru’s earthen wall outer fence on a southern facing incline. On a clear day you can see Manazuru Peninsula, Oshima Island, Sagami Bay and Mt. Hakone from the main room. The building, which stands in a row with bungalows and two-story buildings, was designed to resemble a tea room. Inside the house you can see outstanding designs such as fusuma sliding doors covered in artwork and wickerwork ceilings. You can also enjoy a drink set including, coffee, tea, or green tea with traditional Japanese sweets (additional fee) while taking in the sea breeze overlooking Sagami Bay.
