Hakushu Monument
On the sandy beach in front of the Hakushu Memorial Hall is a poem inscribed monument of “Rain of Jogashima”. This poem was made in the 2nd year of the Taisho era (1914), which was a sailor’s song created for Hakushu’s art recital. Although the monument was supposed to be the first literary monument of Hakushu Shaon, during the wartime, Jogashima was designated as a fortress area and was not recognized. In 1949, it was unveiled as the embodiment of Hakushu’s aspirations, “a sail-shaped stone trust into a reefy coast rises above”.
