Declaration for Common Prosperity in the Twenty-first Century by the State of Penang, Malaysia and Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan The State of Penang, Malaysia and Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan singed the Joint Statement for the Further Development of Goodwill Exchanges between the two regions on October 3, 1991. Since then, they have established close relations between the two regions for peace and development of Asia and the world through exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as administration, economy, youth and women. Such exchanges and cooperation built upon in the past have greatly contributed to mutual understanding at the regional and citizens' levels between Penang and Kanagawa, as well as to development of friendly relations between Japan and Malaysia. On this occasion of the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Joint Statement, the State of Penang and Kanagawa Prefecture hereby declare their commitment to further strengthen their partnership based on mutual respect and trust, and develop friendship and cooperative relations for the common prosperity of the both regions in the new century.
