Kanagawa’s Animal Protection Center is over 40 years old and its aging facility is not functioning enough to house these animals

The current Center was originally established as a place to cull animals. Today, although the purpose of the Center has changed, many dogs still have to stay in a cage in this old facility. They are waiting for new families in a dark basement room

To change the situation, we wish to rebuild the Center

Would you join us in making a new Animal Protection Center?

Mission

We will take care of the dogs and cats brought into the Center until they find new families.
The staff of the Center look after them giving a lot of affection.

In FY2015, about 16,000 dogs were culled in Japan
In FY2015 no dogs were culled at Kanagawa Prefectural Animal Protection Center.

*“Culling” means to euthanize dogs and cats brought into animal protection centers with medicine or gas.

About 1,000 dogs and cats are brought to Kanagawa Prefectural Animal Protection Center every year.
And they stay there until they find new homes.
Even though they were abandoned by their owners, they still trust people and are waiting to be adopted.

With the new Center as the base for animal welfare, we wish to lead the animal protection activities of the country.

*Kanagawa Prefectural Animal Protection Center covers the prefecture excluding Yokohama City, Kawasaki City, Sagamihara City, Yokosuka City and Fujisawa City.
The Center received 442 dogs last year, which is about 55% of the dogs taken to the shelters in the entire prefecture.

This dog was taken to the Center before.

He was shaggy-haired, and always turned away his eyes from people. He was out of shape and often stayed alone. However, thanks to the dedicated care by the volunteer staff, he became healthy and lively again to meet a new family.

The new Center will give consideration to the health condition of the animals, providing a private cell to each animal.
