Support for Japanese Language Learners in Kanagawa
The number of foreign residents in Japan has been increasing these years. In Kanagawa, too, the number of foreigners residing or working within the prefecture reached a record high in 2024.
Kanagawa Prefectural Government (K.P.G.) has been implementing programs to offer Japanese language courses for beginners and workers from overseas so that they can acquire language skills necessary for living or working in Japan. However, communication in Japanese remains a challenge as they live and work in the community.
To solve these issues, K.P.G. concluded a partnership agreement with Meiko Career Partners, establishing an environment where you can study Japanese anytime, anywhere using “Japany,” a smartphone application for Japanese language learners.
Japany is an e-learning system designed for non-natives to study Japanese anytime they like. Those of you who want to improve your Japanese can choose recommended videos of your level from over 1,400 contents. The videos come in a wide variety from daily-living and business Japanese to preparation for exams, such as Japanese proficiency test and Specific Skills Exam. This system is equipped with functions that help you see your own achievements. You can easily view your study hours, and also your level by taking level check tests.
Through the partnership agreement, foreign people living, working or enrolled in school in Kanagawa can use this app for free of charge for three months from the starting day. Even after the third month, the service fee is kept at \880 (incl. tax) per month, 20% lower than the standard rate of \1,100 (incl. tax) for continuing users.
In addition to individual learners, small and medium businesses, etc. based in Kanagawa can register to use the service for employees’ Japanese education.
