Introducing the latest topics of Kanagawa and the prefectural government.
You can play a video game easily using your smartphone. It is popular as a convenient way to amuse yourself, but not a few people get hooked on video games too much and lose the balance of life.
Kanagawa Prefectural Government (K.P.G.) created an animation video to raise awareness that video game addiction is a disease and there are counselling services in case you fall into the condition. The promotional video features a psychiatrist YOWAI Konosuke, the main character of a popular manga series “Shrink --- a Psychiatrist Yowai”. Original author NANAMI Jin, manga artist Tsukiko and the publishing company Shueisha provided cooperation for its production.
In the video, a boy is building up stress from troubles in his daily life. He can get away from the stress only while playing video games. However, as he increasingly gets absorbed in the games, they come to cause troubles in his daily life. He starts using bad words, stays in his room playing games without getting out and even sleeping at night.
Psychiatrist Yowai talks to him, “Playing a video game is fun. You can feel connected with others through the game. But if you cannot stop playing it and allow it seriously affect your life, that may be video game addiction. Let’s see how you can play it appropriately, and find ways to make yourself relaxed without a game.”
The video shows that if you have signs of video game addiction, you can consult with public health centers or Mental Health and Welfare Center. “Kanagawa Addiction Portal Website”, which carries contact details of medical institutions and self-help groups, is also introduced. K.P.G. aims to make the counseling services widely known so that troubled people can find them and seek advice.
