Treatment of Each Symptom at Home

Fever

Give Over the Counter Drugs.

  • When giving over-the-counter drugs, make sure to read the attached instructions and follow the dosage and administration directions and precautions. In the case of a drug prescribed by a medical institution, follow the instruction of the prescription.
  • Even if drug is taken, the fever does not go down to the normal level, and even if once goes down, it can go up again. Still, your child feels more or less comfortable while the fever is lower.

When Your Child is Feeling Hot and Sweaty

  • To lower the body temperature, have him/her dressed in thinner cloths and cool off his/her neck and armpit using cool compress, etc. Lower the temperature setting of the heater.
  • Have him/her take water when his/her temperature goes down a little and he/she is feeling better.

Nausea and Vomiting

  • When your child has nausea, have him/her take water little by little frequently, like one sip at a time, making sure that the water is not thrown up.
  • If he/she vomits, oral rehydration solution is effective.

Dehydration

  • Have him/her take oral rehydration solution with salt and sugar or thinned apple juice, etc.

If a little child becomes infected, it is difficult to completely prevent infections to family members.

To prevent contagion to all the family members, it is important to practice the following.

  • Limit the person who takes care of the child.
  • Separate the space for the infected child from that for other members.
  • Do not use the common space at the same time.
  • Ventilate regularly by opening windows in two different directions.

Points of Attention Regarding Toilet and Diapers When a Child Recuperates at Home

Virus can be contained in excretion. (Infection case via excretion is not reported.)

Points to be Noted

  • Every time you change the diapers, put the used one in a plastic bag, close the opening and discard it.
  • Keep your hands clean, washing them and disinfecting with alcohol after dealing with diapers and helping the infected child use the toilet.

Other information is available on Guidance on Recuperation at Home on the portal site of the measures against the novel coronavirus infection (in the official website of K.P.G.).
